Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, with Father Luke Back officiating. Burial will follow in Texas State Veterans Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South. The family will receive friends at a visitation 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Robert was born June 27, 1949 to Annie B. White and Jesse Mason in Alcola, Mississippi. He served an impressive 25 years of service with the United States Army. Throughout his career, Robert received numerous honors to include: The Purple Heart (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm and the Combat Medical Badge. Post retirement, Robert worked for 20 years in the physical rehabilitation industry.
Robert was a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge --- 32nd Degree. He was a man of great intelligence and dignity with a loving and giving heart. Robert strongly believed in family first. He will always be remembered for his benevolence, humor and ability to brighten up a room with his spirit of caring.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Mason; his mother, Annie B. White; his stepfather, Hewitt Fuller; his siblings, James Vaughn, Larry Hanton, and "Little Sister"; and one daughter, Lyterryia Amelita Mason.
Robert is survived by his spouse, Jeanie Marie Mason; his children, El-Keithtryck Robert Mason, Schartryce Kymtryck Mason, and Robert Lee Mason, Jr.; his siblings, Jinetta "Bay" Collins, Geneva "Peaches" Jackson (Willie), Ella "Lil'Bit" Ford (Jack), Linda "Cookie" White, Louis Fuller, June Fuller, and Joseph Fuller; and his grandchildren, El-Keithtryck Mason, Quantavis Mason, Quinterius Mason, Alieghia Mason, and Erica Mason.
