Robert James Hall, 82, of Abilene, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011 in Hendrick Medical Center. Visitation will be 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, November 29th at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Wednesday, November 30th at Hillcrest Church of Christ with burial following in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Robert was born October 15, 1929 in Big Spring, Texas. He graduated from Tyler High School in 1947 and from Abilene Christian (College) University with a B.S. degree in Business Administration in 1951.
Robert was President and C.E.O. of Visador Company in Jasper, Texas for almost 25 years. Visador manufactured and marketed specialty building products for the home construction industry. He lead a company that was an innovator and leader in bringing new products to the construction industry. Prior to becoming president of Visador Company, Robert had been an office clerk at Ready Hung Door Company in Dallas (1951 – 1952), Vice President and Manager of El Paso Molding Company in El Paso (1952 – 1956) and Vice President of Visador Company in Jasper (1956 – 1964).
During the 43 years Robert lived in Jasper, he was a member of the Jasper Church of Christ where he served at various times as a song leader, teacher, deacon and elder. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, serving as President in 1960 and Lieutenant Governor of Division 10 in 1975 – 1976. He was a member and Past President of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce, Jasper Memorial Hospital and the Jasper Community Foundation. From the Boy Scouts of America, Robert was honored with the Silver Beaver Award in 1975 and the Good Scout Award in 1992.
In November of 1999, Robert and his wife, Mary Ann, moved to Abilene to be closer to family members. Mary Ann preceded him in death in 2007. He was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ. Robert was selected as the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year in 1993 by Abilene Christian University. He has served on the boards of Abilene Christian University, Abilene Christian Schools and the Christian Chronicle. His hobbies were photography, choral singing, writing his life story for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and poking fun at himself. On November 1, 2008, Robert married Ruth Heggie at the Hillcrest Church of Christ Chapel.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents J.D. Hall, Jr. and Adriel Robinson Hall; wife, Mary Ann Parker Hall; granddaughter, Melody Claire Hall; and brother, Marcus L. Hall.
Robert is survived by his wife, Ruth Heggie Hall of Abilene; four children and spouses, Dianne and Greg Palmer of Brandon, Mississippi; Stuart and Hope Hall of Grapevine, Texas; Kitty and Gene Wasemiller of Abilene; and Shannon Hall of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, Jennifer and Joel Cameron of Natchez, Mississippi; Amy Palmer and Emily Palmer of Brandon, Mississippi; Erin Parker Hall of San Antonio, Texas; Ashley and Bradley Hall of Grapevine, Texas; Kurt Wasemiller of Dallas, Texas; Kris and Amanda Wasemiller of San Antonio, Texas and Kate Wasemiller of Abilene; and three great grandchildren, Sterling and Mary Presley Cameron of Natchez, Mississippi and Jack Wasemiller of San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Don Hall of Waco, Texas and Roger Hall of Frisco, Texas; and sisters, Joella Pickup of Temple Terrace, Florida and Lynda Gilliam of Dallas, Texas.
