Reynaldo “Rainy” Resendez, 50, passed away Monday, November 19, 2012, at his residence in Abilene. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m. Friday, November 23, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 837 Jeanette, Abilene. Burial will follow in Abilene City Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Visitation will be Thursday evening starting at 6:00p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Rainy was born on March 8, 1962 in Anson, Texas to Estafana Flores.
Rainy was a pipe welder since he was 17 years old and was self-employed for R&R Welding. He loved to fish, hunt, go gambling in the casinos, and especially horse racing. Rainy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and loved to sing his heart out.
Rainy devoted his life to his pride and joy – his only grandchild, Miss Alyssa Marie Resendez. She was the daughter he and his wife, Dora always dreamed of. He made sure she was loved, supported, hugged, kissed and told everyone that they needed to tell her she was beautiful. Rainy would always tell Alyssa, “Give grandpa a smackaroo!” before she left.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Emilia and Petra Resendez; brother Joseph Resendez Flores; and his uncle, Marcus Antonio Resendez.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Dora Martinez Resendez; sons, Marcus Antonio Resendez, Reynaldo Resendez, Jr., and Adam Lee Resendez; granddaughter, Alyssa Marie Resendez; his mother, Estafana Flores and husband, Juan; sisters, Cilvia Ramirez and husband, Tom of Seguin, TX, Gloria Robles of Abilene, Salome Gomez of Anson, Nadene Gomez of Abilene; brothers, Macario “Chilo” Gomez of Abilene, Emilio R. Flores of Abilene, and Johnny Flores of Abilene; aunts, Gloria Hernandez of Clyde, Maria Resendez-Grant and husband, Dennis of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous relatives of Loveland, Colorado, and Phoenix, AZ.
Serving as pallbearers will be Marcus, Reynaldo Jr., and Adam Resendez, Joseph Martinez, Josh Santibanez, Jesse Rangel, Ceaser Rangel, Chilo Gomez, Adrian Ramirez, John-John Jauques, Jesse Arugon, and Christian Martinez.
