Heaven gained an angel when my beautiful, loving and compassionate wife, Rebeca Rosales-Goodbar succumbed to a very short term and aggressive cancer taking her life on March 18, 2024. She was definitely the “wind under my wings”. Rebeca was a very loving mother and a fantastic wife. She will be terribly missed because we were together almost all the time for 25 years.
Rebeca was a true Texan having lived in Abilene and El Paso most of her life. Rebeca was born in Abilene to Ysabel Charles and Teresa (Rivera) Rosales right after the end of the big war and the end of Ysabel’s stint in the Navy. She is survived by a brother, Jesse Rosales (spouse Lala) of Abilene, husband Clyde Goodbar of El Paso, two daughters to include Ms. Shamari Boscio (spouse Luis Hernandez) of El Paso and Ms. Yasmin Crossley (spouse Darren), a son Javier Puente of Terrell, Texas, and step daughter, Hanna Rose Goodbar of Oxford, Mississippi. Grandchildren include Simone Lester, Samuel Puente, Serenity Puente and Skye Puente as well as 3 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Goodbar was a dedicated City of El Paso employee having worked in Parks and Recreation, EP Water, City Library and retiring in the Engineering Department.
Rebeca was the epitome of animal lovers. Throughout our marriage, we had a pet dog named Texas. The first Texas was a miniature dachshund that lived for eleven years. Texas II was a small terrier that lived about twelve years. When we were talking, we had to be careful because Texas II knew about 30-40 words. Rebeca walked Texas II every morning and had had a strict routine. Rebeca loved birds and fed the birds that lived in the Mexican Elder tree every morning. In 2023, Memphis, a small box turtle came to visit us and is still in our back yard.
We talked often about our relatives and what is was like growing up. Both of us were dirt poor, but our parents always took great care of us and we never missed a meal, with no leftovers. Because of that, we didn’t know we were poor until starting school.
We want to thank the staff of Hospice of El Paso for all their assistance, attention and caring.
Arrangements and services are entrusted to Hillcrest Funeral Home West of El Paso and Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home of Abilene. Visitation will be on March 27, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79606. Services will be held at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on March 28, 2024, followed by burial at Abilene Municipal Cemetery.
