Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 5-7:00 PM with a Rosary and time of sharing to begin at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 1:00 PM at Waldhiem Cemetery in Tynan, Texas where he will be laid to rest with his parents and other family members.
Ramon was born on May 22, 1940 to the late Bernardo Cantu Rodriguez and Manuela (Garcia) Rodriguez. He grew up in George West and Mathis. At a young age, he could run very fast and this allowed him to become a very talented baseball player even into adulthood and eventually coaching little league. Ramon moved to Abilene in the 1960 and made it his home. He will be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, his green thumb, love for the outdoors and being a faithful Cowboys fan. He enjoyed the simple things of life like watching movies, creating memories with his family, and being with his coffee friends. He met Lidia H. Ribera in 2000 and together they became one family and created a beautiful life together.
He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Elda Nieto Rodriguez; his beloved daughter, Melinda Rodriguez; his brothers, Julian and Robert Rodriguez; his sisters, Leonor Moralez, Maria Garza, Oralia Rodriguez, and Blackie Gutierrez.
He is survived by his spouse, Lidia Ribera; his sons, David, Noe, Ramon, Jr., and Eloy Rodriguez, Johnny and Ruben Mendoza; his daughters, Melissa Flores and Pascuala Abalos; his sisters. Maggie, Gonzalez, Yolanda Rodriguez, and Irma Rodriguez; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
