Opal Kimbrel Allison, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2019 at the age of 98. Opal was born on September 16, 1921 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to parents Leonder and Leona Kimbrel. She was the 8th child of 10 children, all of whom have preceded her in death.
The Kimbrel family moved to Texas when she was a young girl, and not long after she met and married the love of her life, William Hugh Allison, on November 20, 1936. They were blessed with two children, Shirley June and William Hugh (Jr.), and shared 78 years of marriage before the passing of her beloved “Hudie” in 2014. In the years following his death, Alzheimer’s began robbing her of her precious memories and health, with the only blessing being that she was unaware of the death of both of her children this Spring.
Opal loved her family fiercely, and enjoyed nothing more than spoiling us with her amazing fried chicken, homemade ice cream, and baked treats. She delighted in their garden, and always had a house full of wonderful plants and flowers that thrived in her care.
Opal will be loved and missed dearly by her children’s daughters (her granddaughters) - Donna Cole Fernandez of Abilene (TX), April Allison Sikes of Frankston (TX), Amy Allison Raglin of Gunter (TX) – 2 additional grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren, daughter-in-law Bonnie Sunderland Allison of Palestine (TX), and son-in-law V.A. Bland of Abilene (TX). No public service will be held, and she will be laid to rest in a private family setting per her request. Anyone wishing to honor and celebrate Opal’s life is invited to make a tribute donation to the Alzheimer’s Association. Her family is grateful that her memories have been restored and that she is reunited with her family…caring for all of Heaven’s plants while tapping her foot to Hudie’s fiddle playing, Willie’s singing, and Shirley’s dancing.
