A Memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Hamby Church of Christ 197 Co Rd 504, Abilene, TX 79601 Norma will be laid to rest on Thursday, September 28 at 2:00 PM at the Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery in Burkburnett, Texas.
Norma was born in Eldorado, Kansas to the late Delbert Lee Dickson, Sr. and Dorothy Maxine (Willingham) Dickson. Norma graduated from Russell High School in Russell, Kansas and later on attended Frank Phillips Jr. College in Borger. She married James Edwin Shafer and together they had four children. She moved to Texas in 1977 from Virginia. She began working at what was known as Abilene Christian College. Norma was a secretary in the Physical Education Department for many years before retiring in 1999. She married a former coworker Leo Edwin “Doc” DuBose on October 15, 1988. After Doc’s passing she later married Troy Wallace Franklin.
Norma was a very active person and enjoyed keeping busy. She was active initially at Hillcrest Church of Christ where she worked with the youth. She especially enjoyed driving the Joy Bus and leading Bible Bowl competitions. She later actively attended Hamby Church of Christ were she continued fellowshipping. She enjoyed attending the Rose Park Senior Center, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She had a great love for music. Her strong and powerful voice will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo Edwin DuBose.
She is survived by her husband, Troy Franklin; her children Leslie Paul Shafer, John Allen Shafer, Mary Elizabeth Roby, and Sarah Ann Medford; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Delbert Lee Dickson, II.
