Nancy Ellen Moore

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Elliott- Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South Abilene, Texas. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held Wednesday, November 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Tye Baptist Church, 207 Morgan Street followed by graveside services at Tye Cemetery.

Nancy was the 4th of 5 children born to Aubrey and Remona Moore on August 5, 1941 in Abilene, Texas.

Nancy went to elementary and junior high school in Tye and graduated from Abilene High in 1959. Nancy was the proud owner and operator of Chat and Curl Beauty Shop in Tye, Texas from 1960-2021. She was faithfully devoted to Tye Baptist Church serving in many roles from Sunday School teacher, Bible School volunteer, and committee member. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ for the congregation beginning in 1957 and continuing weekly until she passed away. In addition to her beloved church, Nancy was passionate about her small town of Tye. She was a dedicated servant and volunteer. Among her many contributions, she served for over 20 years as a member of the City Council then as Mayor. She took pride in looking for ways to improve her community and help those that lived there. Her hobbies included quilting with friends, traveling, and crocheting. She was affectionately known to her many nieces and nephews as “Aunt Nanny” who looked forward to handmade quilts, hats, and stuffed animals she generously made each Christmas. Aunt Nanny loved the Lord and lived an abundant life with her many friends and family. She will be greatly missed.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Aubrey and Remona Moore, brother Elmo Moore, and sister Mary Francis Smith.

She is survived by her brother Jack Moore, brother Paul Moore and sister-in-law Jo Moore, and brother-in-law Orlin Smith. She is also survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews as well as everyone else who referred to her as Aunt Nanny.
