

Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Texas State Veterans Cemetery 7457 West Lake Rd. in Abilene with his son in law, Pastor Toby Romack officiating.
David was born on November 28, 1933 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late David and Agnes (Jackson) McBride. He grew up is West Warwick, RI. He joined the United States Army in 1950 in order to serve in the Korean War, serving faithfully until being honorably discharged in 1952, to join the United States Air Force. He began a 25-year career serving his country making 400 successful missions over Hanoi as a B-52 tail gunner. He married Margaret E. Hutnak on April 25, 1953 together they had 4 children. The family moved around to several different states following David’s career. He was a proud recipient of two Distinguished Flying Crosses and numerous other medals and ribbons. He was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in 1969, retired in 1974, and made Abilene home. He was the owner of McBride’s Auto Service for many years. He enjoyed NASCAR, being at the racetrack, flying, and spending time with his grandkids. He also enjoyed creating special memories with his longtime companion of 47 years Gwendoline Dutelle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold McBride; and his son-in-law, William “Bill” Day.
He is survived by his loving Gwendoline Dutelle; his children, David B. McBride and his wife, Nancy; Daniel J. McBride and his wife, Donna; Linda Romack and her husband, Toby; and Debbie L. Day; one brother, Gerald “Skip” McBride; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; nephew, Andrew McBride; and a niece, Lee McBride Anderson; a host of other relatives, friends, and fellow service members.
