Mrs. Clifton (Ruth) Ross

Ruth Ross, age 87, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016 with her loving daughter by her side. She was born in Compere (Jones County), Texas to the late Russell and Tiney (Bishop) Breeden. Ruth married Clifton Ross, Sr. on February 6, 1944 in Abilene. She served as a Deputy Sheriff in Shackelford, Taylor and Jones counties for over 15 years. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Tiney Breeden; husband, Clifton Ross, Sr.; son, Clifton Ross, Jr.; daughter, Joye Horrell; sister, Mrs. Charlie (Lena) Price; and brothers, Joe, H.C. (Dolly) and Odis Breeden. Survivors include her daughter, Sue Byrd; seven grandchildren, Jim Horrell, Jr., Angela Huff, Jeff Horrell, Gilbert Hunt, Diane Jones, Carole Ann Ross and Randy Ross; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2016 from 6pm to 8pm at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street. Funeral Services will be held 10am Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Memories with burial following at Elmwood Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Larkin Jones, Colby Jones, John Rouse, Jr., Wayne Huff, Jim Horrell and Gil Hunt.
