A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012, at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Milford was born June 11, 1935 to Milford David Hughes and Laura Dickerson Hughes in Litchfield, Nebraska. He graduated from Northside High School in Fort Worth, Texas, playing every sport with great enthusiasm and dedication. Milford married Carol Landis in 1955 in Fort Worth. He graduated from Texas A & M. Milford was employed as a mechanical engineer until his retirement. He had very high work ethics. Milford enjoyed being in the great outdoors, spending time with his horses and cattle; playing golf; and traveling. Of the greatest importance to Mr. Hughes was the love that he had for his wife, his children, and his dog. He was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church and devoted to his church family.
Milford was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jacqueline Herndon.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Hughes of Abilene; a son, Blake Hughes of Midland, Texas; two daughters, Leah Denise Nobles of Abilene and Marci Hughes Nelson and husband, Miles, of Midland, Texas; his mother-in-law, Lois Landis of Abilene; a sister, Vicki Hurt and husband, Robert, of Clyde, Texas; grandchildren, Erin Michelle Huckabee and husband, Brent, of Lubbock, Texas, Rachel Nelson, Miriam Nelson, and Sam Nelson, all of Midland; great-grandson, Isaac Brenden Nobles of Lubbock; two great-aunts, Ruth Davis of Abilene and Lola Parks of Maryland; and his dog.
