Michael was born on August 12, 1950, in Russellville, Arkansas to his loving parents, John and Lois Ford. At a young age, his family moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he was raised with his two younger brothers. He joined the United States Navy where he was a photographer’s mate. His four years in the Navy brought him much pride throughout his life. After being honorably discharged he returned to Fort Worth where he worked in several industries. As a teenager, Michael started playing the guitar and over the years developed his musical skills. One day while he and a friend were playing he, “struck the right note” and caught the attention of Sarah “Ruth” Runnels and the rest was history. Their marriage not only united them but also their families. He eventually started a career as a maintenance electrician with Siecor. After many years Michael and Ruth relocated to Midland and finally to Abilene where they retired.
Michael was a wonderful musician. He started a band, Bootleg, with his friends. He even wrote his own music. Later in life, a stroke inhibited his musical abilities, but he never lost his love for it. Above all, he was a family man. He created special memories with his family traveling, laughing, and many camping trips. He enjoyed video games, reading, and who can forget his Pittsburg Steelers! He will be remembered for his unconditional love, loyalty to his family, and the ability to be strong and sweet at the same time.
He was preceded in death by his parents; John and Lois Ford; brothers, David and Johnny Ford; his daughter, Shawnda Rockey; and his grandson, Christopher Wayne Stallings.
He leaves to cherish precious memories for his wife of 43 years, Ruth Ford; his children, David (Sarah), Sherri, Troy (Karin), Deidra (Larry), Rhonda(John), John, Sam (Monty), Shelley (Cliff), and Lee (Darrellee); 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild on the way; sister-in-law, Betty Ford; his aunt, Margaret Beck; his beloved dog, Jake; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life and legacy will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church Castle Hill in Azle, Texas. Inurnment with military honors will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 11:30 AM at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
