Mary Ruth Shifflett, 91, of Abilene passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, August 25, 2018 in the Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 with burial following in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater. Craig Bunch, Eric Shifflett, Kris Hernandez, Matthew Green, Trey Hunter, and Tyler Bunch will be serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 10 to 11am, prior to the service.
Mary was born on December 5, 1926 to Floy and Blanche Smith. She met and married Calvin Shifflett and the couple had five children together. She enjoyed going camping with Calvin, before he passed away in 1989. She also enjoyed yard work and spending time with family. She was a member of Elmcrest Baptist Church and later attended Broadview Baptist Church. She was a cafeteria worker for AISD and Head Start for many years and also worked as a foster grandparent at the Abilene State Supported Living Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 1 brother and 1 sister.
Survivors include her five children, Sylvia Kay Bunch, Gary Lynn Shifflett, Randy Lee Shifflett, Larry Ray Shifflett, and Paula Ruth Hunter; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
