Mary Rozetta Peterson King of Abilene passed away on Friday, June 26 at the age of 91. A chapel funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 S. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
She was born January 8, 1924 in Lipscomb County, Texas, to Andrew and Jesse (Porter) Peterson. She and her 9 siblings grew up on a farm near Canadian, Texas. She received training to be a nurse with the Army Nurse Corps at North West Texas Hospital in Amarillo Texas and graduated in 1946. She later graduated with a degree in social work from Hardin-Simmons University. She worked at Abilene State School as a nurse until retirement.
She married Carl Lee King Jr December 14, 1948 in Amarillo, Texas. They had two children and moved to Abilene in 1963. Carl and Mary had 45 wonderful years of marriage until he passed away in October 1993.
Mary is survived by her two children; daughter Dana Keith (husband Reggie) of Houston,
Texas and son Carl Lee King III (wife Lynda) of Atlanta, Georgia, granddaughters Lauren (Keith) Van Allen (husband Russell), Shelly Keith, Kathryn King, Christine (Keith) Bethune (husband Zach), Gracie (Keith) Lane (husband Jhase), Carl Lee King IV, and great-grandchildren Adelle, Aaron, Alex, and Mary Keith.
Mary was the 2nd oldest of 9 siblings. She is survived by 5 of her siblings. Joel Peterson of Gallup, New Mexico, Selma Peterson-Tate of El Paso, Texas, Josie (Peterson) Pinkston of Bakersfield California, Ruby (Peterson) Adcock of Pampa, Texas, and Texa (Peterson) Harper of Abilene, Texas. Also she is survived by many nieces & nephews.
