Jerry Covington, age 98, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street. Graveside services will be 9:00 am Friday, June 10, 2016 at Elmwood Memorial Park followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30 am at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech Street.
Jerry was born in Fort Worth to the late William Thomas and Myrtle Mae (Meadows) Prell. She graduated from Central Paschal High School in Fort Worth. On September 25, 1948, she married Jack Key Covington and they soon relocated to Abilene, Tx. Jerry was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and past board member. Other activities included the Hendrick Medical Auxiliary, Friendship Sunday School Class, Abilene Women's Club (past board member) and '58 Study Club.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, William and Myrtle Prell; husband, Jack Key Covington, Sr.; and sisters, Madge Prell and Meredith McCall. Survivors include her son, Jack Covington, Jr. (Karen Solov) of Corte Madera, CA; daughter, Donna Kay Wittliff of Abilene; three grandchildren, Juliana (Robert) Taylor of Lubbock, Matthew (Lisa) Wittliff of Houston and Rebecca Covington of Corte Madera, CA; five great grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Stacey Covington of Mayfield, KY and two very dear friends, Tina Brown and Karen Spaar.
