Maria G. Garcia

Maria G. Garcia, 89, of Abilene, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6 to 8pm with a rosary starting at 7pm on Wednesday evening at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, located at 5701 Hwy 277 south.

Maria was born on December 22, 1929 in Lagarto, Texas to Bruno and Julia Gutierrez. She was raised on a ranch, which left her with a lifelong love of horses. She was proud of her upbringing. Being raised a rancher's daughter she learned to work hard, which helped her to provide for her family when she got older. She was a very active member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, where she was a part of the Creative Ladies and helped prepare meals for families attending funerals. Maria also worked as a supervisor for Hendrick Medical Center for 20+ years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Manuel Garcia; grandson, Danny Martinez; brothers, Lino and Sam Gutierrez; and sisters Dora Amador, Lenora Moreno and Adela Gutierrez.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Lina Castillo and Eva Martinez; son, Richard Garcia; sisters, Elsa Herrera and Lydia Almaraz; brother, Bruno Gutierrez Jr.; 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
