Yvonne was born November 3, 1925 in rural Anson, Texas to Ruby and Bence Magee. She attended elementary school in the Antelope School and graduated from Anson High School on a Friday night. The next Monday she went to work at Citizens Bank. She was hand-picked by the President, Malcolm Meek. There was no interview. He had heard she was a good worker and was never disappointed. She briefly attended Hardin Simmons University. Yvonne met Dennis Cheek in 1944 at Pittard Drugstore in Anson, TX. They were married April 15, 1945 at University Baptist Church in Abilene. She lived in Yuma, Arizona and Louisiana while Dennis was in training during WWII. Yvonne returned to Abilene and back to work at Citizens. Her other places of employment include the Boy Scout Office with Henry McGinty; the Sheltered Workshop at Abilene State School; and she retired from Marbridge House of Abilene. When Yvonne was 11 years of age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit picked her up and carried her to the front of First Baptist Church in Anson. She vowed to serve God and she held true to her vow. Because Jesus loved Yvonne first, she loved people and people loved her. She was a long-time member of Belmont Baptist Church and in 2000 was named the Lay Person of the Year for the Abilene Baptist Association Social Ministries. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandparents; brother, James Magee; aunts; uncles; cousins; a niece; and her infant daughter, Nancy Kay. Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Cheek Pfluger; grandsons, Nathan and Benjamin; son, Neal and wife, Adrian; grandchildren, Tyler Brothers and wife, Rachel, and Sarah Kate Brothers; sister-in-law, Jane Magee and family; nephews, Gary Cheek and Mike Cheek; and many cousins and forever friends.
