Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Monday, October 17, 2011, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1402 Grape Street, Abilene, with dear friend Reverend Gayle Thornberry officiating. Burial will follow in Maryneal Cemetery (near Sweetwater, Texas), directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Adams, John Adams, Jr., Eugene Hufford, Glenn Failes, Rusty Fry, and Bill Beard. Dennis Schkade, longtime family friend will serve as honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at a visitation 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2011, at the funeral home.
Margaret was born on March 3, 1925 in Reading, England to Alfred and Violet Hiscock. During World War II, she worked for Union Fidelity Insurance Company; Ministry of Supply Time Control; and retired from Hendrick Medical Center Central Supply after 22 years. Margaret met Joe W. Adams at the U.S. Army Air Corps in August 1943 and they were married July 15, 1944 at St. Michaels Church, Tilehurst, Reading, England. After serving in Europe, Joe came home October 1945 and Margaret joined him after a trip on Queen Mary, New York on March 5, 1946 and has been an Abilene resident since then.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, The Glow Group, and Trans-Atlantic Brides and Parents Association. Margaret leaves us with her thoughts concerning her life: "I couldn't have enjoyed such a good life without my caring and loving church family with Grace United Methodist Church and all my dear friends of many years. May God keep you all close always."
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Wilson Adams (June 4, 1998); son, David Lewis Adams (February 2007); and her parents, Alfred and Violet Hiscock who passed away in 1957 and 1970 in England.
Survivors include two sons and family, Joe Henry Adams and wife, Patsy, of Merkel, Texas and Christopher Alfred Adams and wife, Brenda, of Eula, Texas; granddaughter, Melissa Adams of Abilene; grandsons, Brandon Adams of Abilene, Justin Adams of San Angelo, and Eric; great-granddaughters, Chandi, Christianna, and Noah; great-grandson, Beau; great-great-grandsons, Devyn, Gabriel, Jeffrey, Mycah, Jayden; and great-great-granddaughters, Kaylee and Carmen. Special to Grandma Adams were Jay, Christian, Jacob, Jayme, Nicholas, and Stormy; dear friend, Pete Holliday of California; a dear sister, Mrs. Cherry Wise of Horndean, England; nephew, Michael Wise and Moira and sons; niece, Margaret and Gly Hughes, Abigail and Tommy; great-niece, Marsha and Steve Stokes, Jacob, Daisy Mae, and Lydia Cherry; many dear cousins and their families, all of England; and with expressions of love to all of the Adams' nephews and nieces --- all of the Adams' were Margaret's second family and dearly loved.
The family would like to give special thanks of appreciation to Colleen Luna for the wonderful friendship and care given to Margaret during her illness. Also, thanks to Geneva Lantrip for the care given to Margaret during her time of need and thanks to her dear friends, Alice, Kay, and Gwen for their love and support.
