Manuel Guerra, 88, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Abilene. Funeral services will be 10:00a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church with burial following in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening at 6:00p.m. with a Rosary starting at 7:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South. Serving as pallbearers will be Timothy Hinojosa, Paul Hinojosa, Fernando Garcia, Emilio Garcia, John Castro, Jr., and Christopher Smith.
Manuel was born on February 15, 1930 in Falfurrias, Texas to Luis and Emilia Guerra. He married the love of his life, Raquel on December 31, 1949. Manuel was employed by Pine Street Salvage as a welder for many years before retiring. He also fixed lots of cars as a mechanic. He was very active in St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church as a Acolyte Alter Server as well as a leader or vocal in the Cursillo Movement as a Cursillista. Manuel was a Pilar for the church and an Eucharistic Minister training lots of new beginners of alter servers. He was very active in all church activities always making sure all preparations were ready for the priests on any occasion.
Manuel was known for his kindness and generosity to others, always helpful to anyone needing a hand. He was a good man who lived a good, long life in spite of his physical health issues throughout his years.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Raquel Guerra; parents, Luis Guerra, Jr. and Emilia Sanchez Guerra; two sisters, Francisca Gonzales and Andrea Martinez; two brothers, Librado Guerra and Francisco Guerra; two sons, Joe Angel Guerra and Juan Guerra; and one daughter, Linda Castro. Survivors include five daughters, Juanita Flores and husband, Reynaldo of Abilene, Melba Guerra of Abilene, Margaret Guerra of El Paso, Terri Smith of Carrollton, and Rosie Garcia and husband, Ismael of Abilene; a sister, Angelita Lopez of Temple; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
