John R. Reddin, 81, passed away Wednesday, October 6th, 2010 in a local care center. Funeral services are Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, 5701Hwy 277 South, with burial following in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel.
Born December 24, 1928, John Rudolph Reddin was the son of John Dewey Reddin and Ruby Jane Burns Reddin. His childhood was spent growing up on his family's farm near Stith. He attended Mulberry schools and Merkel High School. Following high school he worked in the oil field before he began his photography career. There has been a dark room in every house where he lived since the late 50's. He began a photo studio in his home in 1969, doing portraits, weddings and banquets. Then he owned Mymia Photography Studio which, in 1976, became Reddin Photography, on South 7th. He photographed sports teams in Abilene during his career and did some freelance photography for the Abilene Reporter-News, Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, and other area newspapers. He was a member of the Texas Professional Photographers Association and also held the office of Vice-President.
John loved woodworking and guns as well as hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed cooking waffles at midnight on the patio with his grandkids.
John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his two sons and their wives, John D. and Kimberly Reddin of Greeley, CO and Ronnie and Monica Reddin of Katy, TX; four grandchildren, Jason and wife Sheray Reddin of Lubbock, Darbi Reddin of Katy, John L. Reddin of Lubbock and Dennis and wife Cassie Reddin of Katy; and great-grandchildren, Caleb, Harleigh and Sadie Reddin; and the mother of his two sons, Gladys Reddin.
