John T. Jones, 83, passed away on September 22, 2012 at a local medical center in Abilene. Funeral services will be 11:00a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, with Pastor Matthew M. Lubin Sr., Officiating. Burial to be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 10:00a.m. in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Visitation will be Friday, September 28, 2012 from 5p.m. to 8p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Jones was born on March 20, 1929 to Lamar and Lou Mattie Arban Jones in Arcadia, Louisiana. After completing his education, he joined the United States Army. After serving his country he worked as a car detailer for Fred Hughes Automotive and Taylor Chevrolet until his retirement. John loved to fish, bar-b-que, play dominoes, and he especially loved his family and friends. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, George Robert Jones, Lamar Jones Jr., and Joe Louis Wilbert; and one sister, Rosa Lee Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Tommie Jean Jones; his sons, John T. Jones, Jr. and wife, Shannon and Ross Earl Daughtery and wife, Rose; his daughters, Johnnie Marie Curley and husband, Bill, Aleanious Meffers, Brenda Fields, Lasonya Coleman and husband, Larry, and Marion McGee; two brothers, Tommie Lee Jones and L.V. Hawkins and wife, Darlene; two sisters, Annie T. Washington and husband, Willie and Ann Hall; sister-in-law, Martha Jean Jones; twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
