The family will receive friends for a visitation at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday November 12, 2023 with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. On Monday November 13, 2023 at St. Francis Catholic Church with father Albert officiating. Burial to follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery.
John was born in Abilene, Texas to Jose Clemente Herrera and Isabel Ranjel. He attended Abilene High School. John was a loving family man who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He had a passion for dancing, watching Dallas Cowboys football games, playing the harmonica and trumpet. He loved fishing and cherished moments playing with his grandkids. John was also a talented musician and took joy in being part of a music band. He had a deep appreciation for old western cowboy movies and shows, and he always brought excitement with his traditional Mexican “Grito”. He will be remembered for his love of life and the joy he brought to those around him.
John was preceded in death by his wife Tammy Herrera; father Jose Clemente Herrera; grandmother, Antonia “Mata” Quiroz.
John is survived by his children, Teresa (Matt) Hood, John Herrera-Sainz, Angelina Rey (Angela) Herrera, Ann Marie (Christopher) Herrera, San Juanita (Victor) Peña, Robert McKinney and Michael (Amanda) McKinney; siblings, Joe (Tamela) Herrera JR, Juanita (Kelly) McDonald, Alfredo (Esmeralda) Herrera, Frances (Carlos) Hererra-Perez. Many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers are Andrew Hernandez, Chris Rodriguez, Michael McKinney, Victor Peña, Danny Rodriguez, John Herrera-Sainz, Julian Herrera- Sainz, Michael Brecheen, Nathaniel Gutierrez and Angela Chabarria.
