Jo was born on September 17, 1932 in Galesburg, Illinois to Anna and Herman Danielson. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; three sisters; and her beloved husband, William J. "Bill" Spencer. Survivors include her daughter Kimberlee, husband Rich and grandson, Matthew of Vero Beach, Florida; daughter Lou Spencer of Montgomery, Texas; son Eric Spencer, wife Tina and grandchildren, Sydney and Jackson.
Jo was very active in her church, First Central Presbyterian. She was a Stephen Minister and served on the Board of Church Women. She was an active volunteer at B.O.B.S. and the First Presbyterian Church Food Pantry. Jo also volunteered at Hospice of Abilene, Grace Museum, and Hendrick Hospital. She served on the Abilene Philharmonic Guild and was a member of the Slipper Club. The N.C.C.I.L. so benefitted from her time and generosity of spirit that she was awarded "Volunteer of the Year" in 2012.
Jo was the consummate U.S.A.F. wife. She moved, made a home, and settled herself and her family into communities through the years collecting friends along the way. Settling in Abilene in 1973 she was blessed with friendships that still stand strong today. She was a loving Grandmother often telling her children that "if she'd known how much fun being a grandmother was she'd have done it first!" She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to be loved by her.
The family would like to thank all those who helped care for Jo following the passing of her sweet Bill, especially Dr. Dean Alan Schultz. Thank you to the residents and staff of Wesley Court who welcomed her with open arms and made her feel instantly at home. Unending gratitude goes to the church family of First Central. Lastly, she was honored with an angel in the form of a caregiver, Jennie Edwards, who became family.
Services will be held at First Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene, Texas on May 15, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Pastors Clifford Stewart and Janice Six will be officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to First Central Presbyterian Church located at 400 Orange Street, Abilene, TX. 79601 or, in her honor, to a charity close to your heart.
