Jerry was born on February 25, 1942, in Baytown, Texas to father Robert Bowers and mother Louise Bowers Brookshire. She grew up in Baytown, Texas alongside her younger brother Walter Robert Bowers. They were inseparable and supported each other with a fierce loyalty and deep protective love.
In 1960, Jerry met William Otis Cannon and it was love at first sight. They were married 4 months later. Jerry shared an amazing legacy with William “Her Bill.” Theirs was a love story for the ages. Bill and Jerry reached the rare height of 62 years of love and marriage.
Family was of huge importance to Jerry. She loved unconditionally and whole-heartedly. She and Bill wanted four boys. But God had other plans and in 1970, Jerry and Bill welcomed their only child, daughter Debra Cannon Stewart. It was always just the three of them and her heart was full and content. One day years later, Jerry’s family grew with a beloved son-in-law Jeff Stewart and two amazing grandsons Zachary and Nathan Stewart. Jerry finally realized God did give her four boys, just not like she thought: her husband, her son-in-law and two grandsons. As Jerry’s grandsons grew up the family grew too. Mariah Milioni married Zachary and Ashlynn Brooks married Nathan. Step forward a few years and Jerry’s family was blessed with three amazing great grandkids, Jackson, Adeline, and Elliott Stewart. Just a few weeks ago, Jerry said she got two bonus boys with her two great-grandsons and a precious great granddaughter. She was overjoyed with the family God gave her.
It was evident her family brought her great pride and joy. But what made her heart beat and soul sing was her relationship with God. At the age of 32, Jerry accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She lived each day to share the difference Jesus made in her life. Jerry’s joy immediately lit up any room she entered and made an impact on so many people. She filled the lives of others with warmth and kindness. She never met a stranger and would help anyone to ensure their needs were met. Jerry’s life Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path.” Her life was a testimony of seeking Jesus first to bring honor to his name.
Jerry was preceded in death by her father Robert Bowers, mother-Louise Bowers Brookshire, stepfather-R. G. Brookshire, and brother-Walter Bowers. She is survived by her husband-William Cannon; her daughter and son-in-law-Debra and Jeff Stewart; her grandsons and their wives-Zachary and Mariah Stewart and Nathan Stewart and Ashlyn Brooks; her great grandchildren-Jackson, Adeline and Elliott Stewart; her sister-in-law Elaine Bowers; her nieces and nephew, Tricia Bowers LeCompte, Donna Bowers Burnett, Kirk Bowers, and their families; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Diana Cannon; her best friends Linda and Miles Bowmen Sr. and their children Miles Bowman Jr. and Kari Bowman Nieto.
