Jennie Mae Parker, 91, of Abilene, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 9:00a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South with Pastor Wes Terry officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Parker was born on June 22, 1924 in Revena, Texas to William and Carrie Deets. She married the love of her life, Travis W. Parker on September 15, 1942. The spent 50 years together. She lived most of her younger years in Arkansas before coming back to Texas as a young woman. She was a military wife staying home and raising three children. Jennie loved to bowl, do needle work and was a good cook. She also belonged to the VFW Aux. and Tops #927. Jennie was always one of the first to donate to charities and people in need. She loved her family with all her heart, including her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death were her husband, Travis; her parents, William and Carrie Deets; brothers, Wilton Deets and James Deets; and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Survivors include her children, Travis A. Parker and wife, Mary of Montgomery, AL, Robert Parker and wife, Louise of Boerne, TX, Mary Tieking and husband, Darcy of Abilene; grandchildren, Josh Parker, Steven Vance and wife, Felicia, Renee Vance, Carrie Carrillo and husband, Jay, Cora Rohr and husband, Stephen, and Darcy W. Tieking; twelve great-grandchildren and one on the way; and many loved nieces and nephews.
The family would love to give a special thank you to the staff on the 5th floor of Abilene Regional, Hospice of the Big Country, and the staff of the infusion center of Hendrick Medical Center, and Dr. Melnyk and his staff for all the care and love they have shown her.
