James (Jim) Wayne Windham, age 77, passed away peacefully on February 24, in Abilene Regional Medical Center with his sister, Sue and husband Jay, by his side. A Memorial Service for Jim will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 2:00 P.M., at the First Baptist Church of Colorado City. Burial will occur at a later date in the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, OK.
Jim was born on February 8, 1939, in Colorado City, TX. He was the son of J.C. "Lefty" and Clemmie (Henson) Windham. His parents preceded him in death along with an older brother, Robert "Bud" Windham, and an older sister, Texi Lea Carson.
Jim is survived by a son, Shawn Wayne Windham and wife Carice of Odessa, TX; a sister, Martha Sue Allen and husband, Jay of Oklahoma City, OK; and three granddaughters, Kamille, Kinley and Taylor Windham of Odessa, TX; and seven nieces.
Jim was a gifted athlete, lettering in football and track at Colorado City High School. He played football at the University of Houston from 1957 to 1961, where he was named an All-American standout. Jim served as a team Captain for the Cougars during his Senior year.
Like his father before him, Jim was an accomplished welder for most of his life. He had been a resident of San Angelo, TX for many years. During these last years, Jim stayed active by riding his bicycle all over the city greeting many old friends and making new ones with his outgoing personality. Jim served his country by serving in the United States Army; he was a proud veteran.
