Jim was born on August 11, 1928 in Mattoon, IL to the late William B. and Inice F. (Snapp) Weston. He grew up in Mattoon where he enjoyed a childhood of fun and the usual mischief. At a young age he decided to follow his father’s footsteps and join the United States Navy and after serving was honorably discharged and began a 21-year career serving the United States Army. It was his dream to get to see the world. He served in WWII, where he received a Purple Heart for being shot in the shoulder off a tank. He then went on to serve in Korea. After his military career, he took up photography, while working at Jimmy Willis’s studio in Waco he met Norma Gene Melton and the rest was history. The two married on August 3, 1970, they honeymooned in California and enjoyed it so much they decided to stay and made it home for the next 32 years. Jim began a career working in the mining industry as an assessment worker, and laborer. In 2002, Jim moved to Abilene Norma’s hometown for health reasons and to be closer to family. He will be remembered as strong man, very generous, and a loving husband.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William B. Weston, Jr..
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Norma Weston; his sister, Annie Ward; nephew, Ted Ward and his wife, Susan; sister-in-law, Ann Weston; and his mother-in-law, Gerneva Dennis; and numerous other relatives.
