Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church with Reverend Terry Brenon officiating. Interment will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street. Serving as pallbearers will be Francisco Lopez, Joe David Lara, Daniel Lopez, Isaac Lopez, Michael Lopez, Fernando Lopez, Christopher Hawthorne, and John Martin Lopez. Honorary pallbearer will be Trini Lopez. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2011, at the funeral home chapel.
Ignacio was born in Carrizo Springs, Texas on November 23, 1922, the son of Gerardo and Gabina Lopez. He enlisted in the Army/Air Force and served his country proudly during WWII. Ignacio moved to Abilene in 1947 and married Antonia and began his career with Rose Construction. He married Emilia Garcia, February 12, 1951. Ignacio had various jobs until he began his career with the City of Abilene in the Parks and Recreation Department, until he retired in 1987 after more than 25 years of service. He loved helping people, spending time with his family, and working in his yard and flower beds.
Ignacio was preceded in death by his parents, Gerardo and Gabina; both of his wives, Antonia and Emilia; two sons, Francisco and Pedro Lopez; one sister; and four brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Anna Maria Lara; his sons, Johnny and wife, Kathy, Ignacio P. Jr., Mike and wife, Julie, Angel and wife, Shana, and Jerry and wife, Becky; brother, Paul Gomez; twenty grandchildren; and forty-one great-grandchildren.
