Hollis Cooley, 85, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at a local medical center. Services will be 10:00am, Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory with P.B. Middlebrook and Palmer McCown officiating. Burial will follow in Midway Cemetery, Hodges, TX. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home.
Hollis was born September 5, 1925 in Rosston, TX to the late Dock and Lena Cooley. Known as an avid flea marketer, he also loved to tinker with cars and traveling with his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife Ava Nell Regeon Cooley; his son, Dennis Cooley and daughter-in-law Jenny Cooley Gore. Survivors include a son, James Cooley and wife Karolyn of Oak Point, TX; two daughters, Sondra Jones of Abilene and Cynthia Baker and husband Barry of Deer Park, TX; three sisters-in-law, Helen Jones of Houston, Elizabeth Siewert and husband Clarence of Abilene, and Aleen Tackett of Abilene; special friends, Judith Daniels and Jack Herndon; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
