Gloria Jeanne Boswell, 91, died Friday, September 8, 2017 at a local hospital. Services will be at 1:00pm Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South, officiated by Kathryn Stuckey. Burial will be in The Garden of Honor in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Mrs. Boswell was born in Enid, OK, March 29, 1926 to Charles Anthony Newberry and Paula Coker Newberry. She married Ted Boswell, Jr. on August 30, 1943 in Marion, Crittenden County, Arkansas. She attended schools in Kansas and Texas and graduated from Pascal High School in Ft. Worth, TX. She met her future husband during a summer vacation with her aunt and uncle in El Reno, OK. This was before the attack on Pearl Harbor and the WWII years.
She married Ted Boswell Jr. between his B-17 Bomber combat training missions, out of Dyersburg, TN. During their 74 years of marriage, she was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and #1 supporter of her husband in his overseas tours of duty during WWII and the Korean wars. After the war years she was active in church and school activities in Muskogee, OK., Wichita Falls, TX., and Carlsbad, NM. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the order of Eastern Star Chapter 24, Muskogee, OK.
Mrs. Boswell retired from Neiman Marcus, North Park, Dallas, TX. During her years in stationary, she excelled in the sales of personal stationary, special occasion cards, party invitations and wedding announcements. She and her husband moved from Dallas to Abilene in 1986, to be closer to family and grandchildren.
Mrs. Boswell is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Brian Thomas of Abilene; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Kiddy Boswell of Wichita Falls; granddaughters, Julie Alexander of Iowa Park, TX, Amy Lydon of San Antonio, and Lori Sims of Abilene; 3 great grandsons and twin great granddaughters.
