George W. Bailey, 95, passed away on Saturday November 11, 2017. He is survived by his son, Philip (Gaye) Bailey; daughter-in-law, Jill (Phil) Hoebelheinrich; grandchildren, David Todd (Lisa) Bailey; Will (Ani) Bailey; Kimber (Ryan) Scott; Caleb (Tara) Bailey; Ben (Lyric) Bailey; Kenzie (Danny) Wilson; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Bailey was preceded by his wife of 68 years, Ela Beth, and eldest son, David.
Born April 3, 1922 in Ola, TX, Mr. Bailey began preaching at age 14. He attended Freed-Hardeman College, Southwestern Oklahoma State, University of New Mexico and Abilene Christian College. For more than 50 years, Mr. Bailey was an influential preaching minister and touched thousands of lives serving churches in Oklahoma, New York, New Mexico and Texas as well as traveling extensively and preaching in campaigns all over the world on 6 continents including a rare privilege preaching in Russia in 1958. He was a guest speaker at the 1964 World's Fair in New York City. For 3 years, Mr. Bailey was a regular speaker on Herald of Truth radio & TV, a staff writer for 3 Christian publications, and an author.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with a celebration of Bailey's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. at University Church of Christ in Abilene. Private burial will be at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery.
