Emma Sue Stacy went home to be with the Lord, December 4, 2011 at the age of 90. Services will be 1:00p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Sue was born February 22, 1921 in Santa Anna, TX to Walter and Gracie McCain, and raised by her grandmother Sarah Dean-Stephenson after the death of Sue's mother. She graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1939. In 1942 she graduated from Shannon School of Nursing in San Angelo, TX and began a career as a registered nurse. Sue married Tom Stacy on December 19, 1943 and they enjoyed over 62 years of marriage before his death in 2006. Tom was also a graduate of Santa Anna High School, and was in the USAF when they married. Sue and Tom made Abilene their home in 1963, and joined Epworth Methodist Church at that time. They both served in many capacities and enjoyed the fellowship of that body of believers until its closing. Sue is preceded in death by her husband, and her son-in-law Dan Vancil.
She is survived by one daughter, Jane Vancil of Abilene and two grandsons; Troy Vancil and wife Stacy of San Antonio, TX and Stacy Vancil of Austin, TX and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Vancil and Paige Vancil of San Antonio, TX. She has special sisters-in-laws and a brother-in-law that are true family, and loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Of her birth family, she is survived by two special cousins, Molly Cliett of Royce City, TX and Rilda Scarborough of Round Rock, TX.
The family wishes to thank the office staff and services of Dr. Bob Muckatira for their care and kindnesses. She spent the last year of her life at Coronado Nursing Center where she received excellent care. Her special caregiver was Clara with Home Instead who was a loyal friend. Hendrick Hospice Care joined the team of caregivers at the end and provided outstanding support. The family also wishes to thank the University Church of Christ who faithfully visited each Sunday and brought communion to Ms. Stacy. She looked forward to this time. Sue had been brought up in the Christian Church where weekly observance of the Lord's Supper was part of the worship. Also many thanks to Deacon Dave Takacs who visited often and had prayer with Ms. Stacy.
Dr. Jeff Reid of Pioneer Dr. Baptist Church will bring the funeral message with the assistance of Dave Takacs.
