Graveside services for Mrs. Polk will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive guest at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home from 1-1:45 PM.
Elaine was born on November 22, 1923 in New Market, Iowa to the late Fred and Pearl (Thompson) Miller. She was raised and attended school in New Market. She moved to Abilene form Colorado Springs, CO in November of 1947. She married Virgil L. Polk in Abilene on March 4, 1948. Together they became the parents of their only child Virgil L. Polk, Jr. Once settled in Abilene Elaine began her career as switchboard operator at Abilene Christian University. She and her husband Virgil, Sr. faithfully attended and was a part of Woodlawn Church of Christ. Sadly she lost her husband of 53 years and lived independently and actively in Abilene until she relocated to New Mexico in 2011 to be closer to family. She will be remembered by her family as a loving, and gregarious person. She was an avid reader. Her life brings to a close a beautiful Christian legacy of faithfulness unto the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; siblings, Irvin, Fred, Jr., Howard, and Dean Miller, Thelma Slump, and Betty Cooper.
She is survived by her devoted son, Virgil L. Polk, Jr. and his wife JoAnn of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Kimberly Simmons and her husband Charles of Mansfield, TX, Shannon Lowe and her husband Matt of Arlington, TX; great-grandchildren, Karly Simmons, Kelsie Simmons, Cater Simmons, and Noah Lowe.
