Edelgard Renate Lenz Tarpley, 94, of Krum, Texas, formerly of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 in Krum. She was born on October 18, 1929 in Germany to the late Fritz Lenz and Helena Pruefer Lenz. Mrs. Tarpley moved to the United States after marrying her husband, James Tarpley, following WWII. She worked for 37 years at Briarstone Catering in Abilene, a job that she really loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Tarpley, three brothers, and one sister. Mrs. Tarpley is survived by two children Michael Tarpley of Roanoke, Texas and Barbara Trueblood of Krum, Texas; grandchildren Kristen Trueblood, Brian Trueblood, Michelle Kimbrell, Christopher Tarpley, and James Tarpley; great-grandchildren Madison Arriaga, Maxwell Mahdavi, Samantha Aranda, Kai Bruns, Shea Ward, Benji Tarpley, Violet May, and Lilly Tarpley; one great-great-grandchild Winter Aranda; and two sisters Gudrun Hollingsworth of Kansas and Irmgard Proetel of Germany.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Downing Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas, with Robert Tarpley officiating.
