Dave “Moose” Kraly, 67, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 4, 2014 in Abilene, TX. Graveside services will be held first on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10:00a.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00a.m. at Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander St. Visitation with family and friends will be on Sunday, September 7, 2014 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St.
Dave was born in Lorain, Ohio to loving parents, Steve and Lucille Kraly. Dave was an outstanding football player and was on the 1963 Championship team at Admiral King High School. He joined the Air Force in 1973 and was a Vietnam veteran. After being stationed at Dyess, he remained in Abilene when he was discharged. In Abilene, he met the love of his life, Malinda. They have been married twenty-eight years.
Dave was a retired social worker, employed at MHMR, Just People, and the program director at Medical Care Mission. Dave was very active in the community and his church. He was on the board of directors at the Abilene Community Theatre and had a passion for helping veterans. His latest project for veterans is getting the Camp Barkley flag pole refurbished and moved to the Veterans Cemetery. This is a work still in progress. Dave has also been a volunteer for the Rehab Telethon for thirty years.
Dave’s idea of a perfect day was to be playing golf with his best buddies. He was also famous for the great entertainment he provided for the round table in the nineteenth hole at the Abilene Country Club. Dave never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Steve Kraly; and an uncle, Joe Haller.
Survivors include his loving wife, Malinda; daughter, Trina Henry and husband, John; son, Shane Mross and wife, Lisa; mother, Lucille Kraly; aunt, Pauline Haller; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Chuck and Sherri Schrader; loving brother, Ed Kraly and wife, Barb; grandchildren, Bryce and Haley Henry, and Mayci and Lillie Mross; nieces, Nikki Churchwell, Melanie Nix and husband, Todd, and Madison Schrader; nephew, Stephen Kraly; great-nephew, Jaden Nix; and several other great-nieces and great-nephews. Dave is also survived by his children with paws, Sniffles, Spooky, Lenny, and Wizard.
Dave will always be in our hearts and his hearty laugh will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Abilene Community Theatre, West Texas Rehabilitation Center, Rescue the Animals, or any organization of your choice.
