Darris Ellen Butler Hagler, 94, of Abilene, formerly of Midland and Blackwell, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Services will be 10:00a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013 in the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, with burial following in the Blackwell Cemetery, Blackwell, TX under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born in 1918 in Alto, TX to George and Julia Butler. Darris married W.T. (Dub) Hagler August 21, 1938 in Iraan, TX. They were married for 64 years before his passing 10 years ago.
Mrs. Hagler is survived by three daughters and their husbands; Swan and Paul Archinal of Lubbock, TX, Ellen and Charles Rice of South Fulton, TN, and Susan and Mike Duncan of Abilene. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, two brothers; and one grandchild.
She loved making pear and peach preserves for her family. She also made receiving blankets for each child born in the family. She and her husband also loved going camping with their trailering friends to different parts of the country.
Mommy Darris, as her grandchildren called her, was loved dearly and will be greatly missed, but she prepared for her heavenly eternity many years ago and is now with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Her six grandsons will be pallbearers.
