A service celebrating her life and legacy will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 US Highway 277 S. Abilene, Texas 79606 with Rev. Connie Mangin officiating. Interment will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4:00 pm also at the funeral home.
Cyd was born on April 20, 1950 with her twin sister Leslie they started life’s journey together and continued through together, until Cyd’s journey ended. She was born in Arkansas City, Kansas to the late Clyde Frank Lane and Eula “Frances” Eatmon. Her family later moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1968. Cyd’s love for sports started in her childhood and continued throughout her life. Cyd and Leslie enjoyed creating memories growing up with their childhood and lifelong friend Valoyce.
After High School Cyd and Leslie attended Western Kentucky University and eventually transferred to what was known as Abilene Christian College. She graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1976. She began a long a productive career as a Nursing Home Administrator that spanned 33 years. While her work was important to her, she devoted herself to the community. She was a former member of Altrusa, President of the Key City Umpire Association, Board of Directors Abilene Women’s Bowling Association, Shady Oaks Women’s Golf Association and along with her sister Leslie they were the first women inducted into the USSSA Umpire Hall of Fame.
Cyd was a true sports enthusiast. She was an avid golfer and loved being a softball umpire. Her legacy of kindness will live on in all the lives she touched through her profession and through the community at large.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her maternal grandparents, O.O. “Boss” Eatmon and Grace Eatmon and her loyal dog, Sassy.
She leaves behind to cherish her precious memories, her devoted sister, Leslie Lane and her partner, Pam Records several first cousins, family friends, Valoyce Musgrove, Bobbie Nichols, Judy and John Landers; and numerous other family and special friends. Though she had no children of her own she, “adopted” Irene Tonche, Sonia Mills, Josie Lockett, Lupe Salas, Rosa Fernandez, Tina Stokes and Alice Rodriguez.
