Homegoing Services celebrating her life and faith will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 11:00 AM in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home's Chapel of Faith. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, April 2 from 6-8:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Hwy.277 S. in Abilene.
Connie was born in Meridian, Mississippi the second 2nd child of 10 born to the late William and El-exia (Pringle) Barney. She relocated to Abilene in the mid 1950's. Connie was an excellent cook and it was only natural she pursued it professionally working at the Day Nursery for many years. She married the love of her life the late Charles Henry James in Abilene, they settled and raised their family here. She initially was a member of New Light Baptist Church and eventually became a faithful member of Holiday Hills Baptist Church. Her legacy of love, compassion, and genuine humility will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C.H. " Buddy" James; daughter, Mary Catherine Mercer; 2 grandsons; 6 siblings; 1 step-daughter.
Connie is survived by her 4 daughters; 3 sons;2 step-sons; 3 siblings; a host of cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
