Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Hillcrest Church of Christ, Abilene, Texas. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street, Abilene. Viewing will be Wednesday 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Clyde was born in Giddings, Texas on August 29, 1939 to Clyde Davis Sr. and Annie Mae Rivers Davis. He was the oldest of seven children.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a cook and a Rifleman. Clyde was noted for his years spent serving up the best steaks in town. He worked at a diverse number of places applying his culinary skills. He was the former head chef at the Royal Inn for 30 years, Dyess NCO Club, Inn Keeper for the Holiday Inn, and owned and operated Clyde’s Place at the Whitten Inn for over 10 years. He retired at the age of 69 due to his health in May 2009.
Clyde was dedicated to his church, family, friends, and his work. Everyone knew him as a man who could be trusted to keep his word. He worked hard to see that his family was provided for. Clyde loved his grandchildren with a passion and enjoyed having them around him. He was going to visit one of his sick grandchildren when he had his first heart attack.
Clyde was loved very much and will be dearly missed.
Preceding him in death were his parents and four children.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Anner Mae Robinson who adored her husband and calls him her “Hero”; a son, Donald R. Davis and wife Shannon Davis; two daughters, Beverly Lavender, Lisa Davis-Wright and husband Rodney Wright; six siblings, Uralene Williams, Mary L. Curl, Sherman Davis, Roscoe C. Davis, Martha A. Ward, and Dorothy Carter; ten grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members .
