Chris was born March 13, 1963, to Norrice “Nora” Carrion in Abilene, Texas. He attended Abilene High School where he was a member of Jr. ROTC. He continued in ROTC at Southwest High School in San Antonio, Texas, where he later graduated with ROTC honors. After graduation, he went on the serve his country enlisting in the United States Navy. He traveled and visited many places while sailing the seas aboard the USS Paul.
After an Honorable Discharge from the Navy and returning to Abilene, he was employed at the Dixie Pig and Denny’s restaurants for many years where he enjoyed his positions as a cook. Chris was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, where he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. He showered his three granddaughters with the love only a grandfather could. He enjoyed cooking and embraced his family with love. He will be especially remembered for his caring, giving spirit and a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Nicholas Carrion, Sr., and Eloise Carrion,; father, Earl Henry; uncle, Nicholas Carrion, Jr.; and aunt, Linda Sanchez.
He is survived by his mother, Norrice Carrion; step-father, Tillman Ware; wife, Cynthia Kayati; three daughters, Kristian “Sissy” Carrion, Myra Carrion, all of Abilene, and Kayla Paige of Crockett; two step-sons, Adam and Abadel Kayati, both of Lubbock; three granddaughters, Tiannah, Ashari and Kamarii; and one grandson, Kaylon Kalra. Four brothers, Theodore “TJ” Carrion of Arlington, John Anthony Carrion, Donnie Ray Carrion and Shawntay Valencia, all of Abilene; one aunt, Clara Townsend; an uncle, Gill Carrion; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon, Friday, August 13, 2010, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory Street, with Rev. Bobby King officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
