Charles Fredrick Riggs, Sr.

A graveside committal service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene with Scott Beard officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-3:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 Us Highway 277 S. in Abilene.

Charles was born on July 2, 1941 to the late Dewey and Ruth (Owens) Riggs. He was raised in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. At a young age he joined the United States Army where he eventually became a Chef. He had a tenured and successful military career and retired after 20 years of service. He eventually settled in Abilene where he met Gladys Mae Cozby in the choir at Bethel Temple. Charles and Gladys were married on May 27, 2000 and enjoyed many wonderful years together traveling and making memories. They eventually became active members of Fountaingate Fellowship Church where they led a small group Bible study in their home. He always enjoyed meeting new people and sharing his faith and life experiences. He enjoyed creating art, going to garage sales, and cooking. He was also a collector of eagle figurines, coins, watches, clocks, and guns. His life came with its trials like us all but his faith helped to guide him through them all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Charles F. Riggs, Jr.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Gladys M. Riggs; his children, Mary Alice Arrington, Tia Riggs-Sikorski; stepchildren, George Niven, Cynthia Kinsel, Pamela Palacious, Kathleen Hargis, and Grady Ray Cozby, III; his brother, Dewey C. Riggs, Jr.; his sister, Barbara J. Sweatt; a host of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31.
