Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home on Hwy 277 S., with Pastor Rudy Fambrough officiating. She will be available for viewing on Friday from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in her hometown on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Hopewell Cemetery outside of Gilmer, Texas. Services and burial are under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 US Highway 277 S., Abilene, Texas.
Carolyn was born in Gilmer, Texas to the late B.F. Miller and Mary Louise (White) Miller. She was the granddaughter of Glen & Crystal White and the great-granddaughter of Matilda Redwine. At a young age the family relocated to Houston where she was raised. She married Kennis Richards in 1960; together they had two sons Mark and Kevin and raised them in Houston. She later married Dale Dunn in 1980 until his passing in 1986. Carolyn married John Dunburg in 1998, and they enjoyed several years of marriage before his passing. Carolyn’s faith was very important to her. She was a longtime member of Almeda Baptist Church in Houston where her Pastor was Gerald Canon. She was very active within her church and enjoyed serving. Carolyn was also active with organizations serving the needs of children. She loved being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also enjoyed gardening. In 2018 she relocated to Abilene to be closer to family. Her passing brings to a close the life of a woman who found joy and peace in helping others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands Kennis Richards, Dale Dunn and John Dunburg. She is survived by her sons Mark Richards and Kevin Richards; two grandchildren Justin Wilson Richards and Jordyn Michelle Richards; one brother Larry Miller and his wife Linda; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
