She was born on September 26, 1957 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida to the late Charles Newman and Annie R. Baker Newman. Her family relocated to Abilene where she graduated from Cooper in 1975. She married Earl Evans on July 26, 1977. Mrs. Evans was a member of New Light Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess, was a choir member and helped with the youth choir. She also served on the kitchen staff and decorating committee. Mrs. Evans served as Vice President of the West Texas District Association where she later became President. She will be remembered for her faithful service to the Lord. She also gave back to the community through her daycare service.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Evans; three children, Regina Pena(Virginia), Katreina Evans Jones and Annie Evans(Broderick); grandchildren, Anthony, Quinten, Sean, Ziahua, Zaniah, and Devin; great grandchildren, Davion, Zavier, Jayce, Aubrea and Kyla; siblings, Jacquline(Willie), John and Charlene; nieces and nephews, Tasha(D'Andrea), Kim, Charles, Latoya, DeOri, Sr.(Leslie), Oceaniana, DeOri, Jr., Rueben, Ijahnea, Jonathan, Carlos, Emma, Kirsten, Kal, Jr., and Tristan. She was preceded in death by a brother, George W. Newman and by her nephew, Kevin.
A visitation will begin at 6:00 PM Sunday, January 29, 2023 at New Light Baptist Church in Abilene. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, January 30, 2023 at New Light Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
