Bonita E. Adams went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2010. She was born April 5, 1925, to Sam and Lonie Woods, in Cedar Gap in Taylor County. When she was very young, her family moved to Champion, Texas, near Loraine. She gave her life to the Lord and was baptized July, 1939 by G. B. Shelburne, Jr. Her family moved to Abilene in December of 1940 and Bonita graduated from Abilene High School in 1942.
Her family attended church at Locust St. Church of Christ, where in October of 1942, she met the love of her life, Marvin Adams. Marvin was stationed at Camp Barkley at that time. Bonita and Marvin were married May 1, 1943. Marvin went oversees to China, during World War II. Bonita stayed in Abilene and worked while Marvin was gone. He returned in December 1945. Bonita and Marvin were blessed with two daughters, Janet and Marva. Bonita worked as a bookkeeper for Philpott Florists and EZ-Serve, retiring in 1987.
Marvin was Elder at the Northwest Church of Christ for 27 years and Bonita was there serving the Lord along with him. They served the Lord and members of that congregation for almost 65 years that they were married.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Marvin in 2007 and her parents and grandparents.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janet Johnson and husband, Alfred of Cordova, TN and Marva Cagle and husband, Bud of Odessa, TX; five grandchildren, Abigail Weaver and husband Alan, Tami Smith and husband Kelly, Matthew Johnson and wife Andrea, Jaime Diffenderfer and husband E. J. and Sarah Nettles and husband David. Thirteen great grandchildren, Kora Smith, Jeremy Nettles, Aubrey Smith, Jacob Nettles, Brynna Smith, Hailey Smith, Andrew Weaver, Rodney Nettles, Lauryn Smith, Rachel Johnson, Anna Weaver, Ashlynn Smith and Callan Diffenderfer. Two brothers, W. B. Woods and wife Betty of San Antonio, TX, and Glenn Woods and wife Peggy of Midland, TX; one sister, Geraldine Thornton of Oklahoma City, OK; one brother-in-law, Marion Adams and wife Anita; four sisters-in-law, Berniece Foster, Doris Brandt, Ida Mae Light and husband Doyle and Ruth Blundell all of the Alice, TX area; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Northwest Church of Christ, North 12th and Willis in Abilene, TX, officiated by Alfred Johnson, Jacky Wallace, Bud Cagle and Matthew Johnson. Interment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Johnson, Kelly Smith, Alan Weaver, E. J. Diffenderfer, David Nettles, Jeremy Nettles, Jacob Nettles, Andrew Weaver and Rodney Nettles.
