Betty Starks

Betty Starks, 80, of Abilene, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at her residence. Graveside services will be 2:00p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011, at Elmwood Memorial Park with Deacon Dewain Hennessey officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. Visitation will be from 6 to 8p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Betty was born November 14, 1930 to John and Nora (Davis) Reynolds in Riverhead Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, Canada. She attended schools in Canada and married Odis Bailey Starks on August 27, 1947. Together they raised nine children.

Moving to Abilene from Hobbs, NM in 1964, she worked for Dub Vinson Laundry for four years and Lankford Mfg. Co. for 6 years and retired from the Abilene State Supported Living Center after 17 years of service. Betty loved to work outside. She was a great neighbor and will be missed by her neighbors and especially by her family. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abilene.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Odis Bailey Starks; her parents; one daughter, Sharron Witt; two sons, Darrell Starks and Odis Starks, Jr.; one sister, Jennie Shugarue; four brothers, Jerome Reynolds, James Reynolds, Redge Reynolds, and Kevin Reynolds; and one grandson, Steven Dan Brazee.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Starks and Kelsey Starks; four daughters, Dianne Boysen, Shirley Davila, Margaret Brazee, and Elizabeth Henager; one brother, Pat Reynolds; two sisters, Mamie Yetman and Sadie Manship; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
