On April 14, 2014, Betty Hagins Bolls slipped peacefully away to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born March 3, 1929 in Abilene, TX to Earl Rush Hagins and Martha Jane Allmand Hagins. She grew up in Abilene where she attended public schools.
She met Downing Abbott Bolls in 1944 while he was stationed at Camp Barkley in Abilene. They married the following year on May 5th at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. As an Air Force wife, for more than 29 years, she and their children accompanied Downing on his assignments, including foreign tours in Europe and North Africa. They returned to Abilene in 1968 for a final tour of duty at Dyess AFB where Betty was active as an American Red Cross volunteer at Dyess AFB Hospital. She was also a proud member of the Officers Wives Club.
Betty was a member of Brook Hollow Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, League of Women Voters, and American Institute of Parliamentarians.
Downing and Betty were blessed with five children, all of whom are still living. They are Terrence Michael Bolls and his wife, Pamela of Chantilly, Virginia, Deborah Elaine Gryzwa and her husband, Joseph of Eula, Downing Abbott Bolls, Jr. and his wife, Deborrah of Abilene, Earl David Bolls and his wife, Mickelle of Austin, and Ann Bolls Hester and her husband, James of Abilene; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, of fifty-nine years in March of 2004.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30a.m., on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Brook Hollow Christian Church with Pastor David Hargrave officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 to 8p.m. at the funeral home.
