A visitation will be from 6-8pm on Wednesday May 17, 2023 at Elliott- Hamil Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at Wylie Baptist Church at 2:00 pm on Thursday May 18, 2023,with Pastor Darrin Ray of Wylie Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene ,TX 79606.
Betty “Butch” Beaty was born in Wichita Falls, TX to Cecil Monro Nelson and Johnnie Winkles on August 12, 1939. She graduated from Albany High School in Albany, TX. Betty and her husband got married on November 20,1981 they soon then moved to San Angelo, TX where she started her teaching degree. She also has a degree in nursing and worked for the Abilene State School for many years. Betty was a teacher for 18 years for San Angelo ISD. She was a member of Wylie Baptist Church, loved fishing, family gatherings at the lake, riding her motorcycle and was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Betty was at one time a female wrestler in 1955 and a backup bass fiddle player for Johnny Cash Band from 1958 to 1963.
Betty “Butch” Beaty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Doug Beaty; sisters, Melba Kidd,Wonda Vernon and Jaunell Frisk; brothers Jack Nelson and Robert Nelson.
Betty “Butch” Beaty is survived by daughter Janet Carmichael (Kowe); sons Jim Washburn (Pam); Scott Washburn(Cindy), Mark Washburn(Lu), all form Abilene, TX, Doug “Tad” Beaty Jr. of Breckenridge and Shawn Beaty of Granbury, Tx; sister, Sue Thomas (Mack) brother; Melvin Nelson (Dorothy) from Arp, TX. 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be: Jayson Murphy, Justin Murphy, Kyle Murphy, Dustin Washburn, Tony Washburn, Rusty Washburn, Skyeler Washburn, Mitchell Washburn, Mike Cane and Bob Mantooth.
