Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 6, 2012, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Highway 277 South in Abilene, with Minister David Hutton of Northwest Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Bettie Jo was born in Wingate, Texas on October 30, 1928. She graduated from Fluvanna High School and continued on to receive an associate’s degree from Draughan’s Business College in Abilene.
Bettie Jo was married to Hershell William McIntyre on April 8, 1949 and they were married 57 years. They owned and operated McIntyre Auto Service in Abilene until “Blackie” retired in 1994.
She was known to everyone as Jo and she worked as a school secretary for Abilene ISD. Over her twenty-eight years of service, she worked at Johnston, Alta Vista, and Lee Elementary schools. Jo enjoyed reading, baking, shopping, attending Abilene Philharmonic events, lunching with friends, and doting on her two grandchildren. She was also actively involved in Abilene Retired Teachers Association and Christian Services Center. Jo was a member of Westgate Church of Christ.
Jo is survived by a son, Larry Don McIntyre and wife Danette of Waco; grandchildren, Mark McIntyre of Dallas, and Molly McIntyre Sanders of Bryan; and sister-in-laws, Ila Mae Grisham of Abilene, Vena Lou McIntyre and Melba Clement, both of San Angelo, and Latayne Parrish of Houston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Christian Service Center of Abilene, 901 Mesquite Street, Abilene, Texas 79601. The family of Jo McIntyre wishes to thank David Hutton, Kevin Hall, Abilene Police Department, and all the neighbors, family and friends who have supplied loving care and support.
