Beulah Roberta Wilkins Warford, 77, our beloved Mother, went to be with our Lord Saturday, April 2, 2011, after a courageous fight with lung cancer. We will join together to remember and celebrate the life of Roberta at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the Clyde Church of Christ, with Mr. David Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Roberta grew up with six sisters and one brother on the farm in Roby and Hamlin, TX. until her family moved to Abilene in 1951. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1952.
Roberta met her husband and love of her life, Max Taylor Warford and they married April 25, 1953. Max entered the Air Force and they were stationed in San Antonio, TX. In December 1954, they returned to Abilene to make their home and start their family. They had two daughters, Maxelle Warford Baldree and Joyce Warford Tabor. They lived at 3166 S. 22nd until moving to Clyde in 1972.
She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator during the first years of their marriage. After the girls were older, she went to work for Senter Realtors, which became her second family. She worked for Senter Realtors from 1973 until 2001 and then part-time for several years.
Roberta was a member of the Clyde Church of Christ since 1973. She loved her Christian family and was an extraordinary example of Christian life.
She also was a member of the “Red Hats”. Her sister red hats became very dear to her heart. Their trips and companionship were one of the highlights of her life.
She is survived by daughter, Maxelle and husband, Mike Baldree of Ovalo, TX; grandson, Chris Baldree of Abilene; daughter, Joyce and husband Jim Tabor of San Antonio, TX; granddaughter, Tracy and husband Matt Parker, of Clyde, TX; grandson, Brandon and wife Christina Tabor of Abilene, TX.; and Aaron Tabor of San Antonio, TX; great-grandsons, Taylor, Cole, Max and Callan; sisters, Nadine Taylor, June and husband, Ray Spendley; sister-in-law, Marilynn Wilkins and brother-in-law Tom Knight, LouAnn and Keith Siddall of Madison, Kay Adams and Dana Burrows of Austin, TX, Rex and Janet Adams of Phoenix, AZ, and Joe and Cathy Adams of Austin, TX.
Pallbearers will be Bill Senter, Scott Senter, Rex Adams, Joe Adams, Keith Siddall, Gib Meyer, Ricky Wilkins, and Kevin Thornton.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Beulah Wilkins; her husband, Max Taylor Warford (2003); sisters, Ilene Knight, Billy McCright, Darcell Starnes, Bonnie Sumners and brother, Stanley Wilkins; brothers-in-law, Gayle Taylor, Charlie McCright, Taylor Starnes, and Edwin Hill.
