Graveside services celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Wingate Cemetery in Wingate, Texas with Jake Hooker officiating.
Arbie was born on February 4, 1936 in Van, Texas. Around the 6th grade, his family moved to a ranch near Bronte where he was raised. He graduated from Bronte High School in 1955 as a star athlete. He received a football scholarship to Angelo State. He also served in the United States Army. He married Betty Ann Buck in October 1961 in Ballinger. After being called by the Army Arbie and Betty briefly moved to Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was honorably discharged came back and began working in the oil field living in Robert Lee and Odessa. He began a career with General Tire and Rubber and made Odessa home for 30 years. Arbie was always ready for the next adventure. He moved back to Bronte and worked the family ranch. Arbie, Betty and Sande then moved to Wingate and initially raised colts, cattle and then added horses as Sande’s love of horses grew. He and Betty then moved to Anson and began their Barrel Futurity Business. Then finally, he moved to the ranch in Hico where he continued taking care of his stallion. He took great pride in his stallion MR Shawne Tres aka “Triple”. If you spent any time with Arbie you knew about Triple. He traveled and won several awards with his horses over the years.
Arbie loved his wife, family and friends. He was a man of great conviction and independence. Once he made his mind up about anything, he usually did not change. In recent years, Arbie relied on his faith and recently made his assurance of the hope of heaven known. Reflecting on when he was saved at age 16.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lorene (Price) Phillips and his beloved daughter, Sande Leigh Miller.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Miller and a host of nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
